Honoring the life of Izeal Garrett Jr.
Izeal Garrett, Jr., affectionately known as “Zed,” was born on March 4, 1948, to Izeal Sr. “Billie” Garrett and Aroh (Smith) Garrett. He lived a life rooted in love, strength, and an appreciation for the simple things that brought him joy.
Zed proudly served his country in the United States military, a reflection of his strength, dedication, and commitment.
Zed was a man who truly enjoyed life in his own way. He loved fishing, watching Fatima on BET, gardening, and collecting clocks. He also enjoyed live horse racing, as well as watching boxing and football—especially cheering on his Dallas Cowboys. If you knew Zed, you knew he was going to be watching his Cowboys. On Sundays, he enjoyed riding, listening to music, and going to church, taking time to appreciate each moment.
He faced his health challenges with quiet strength and dignity, continuing to move forward with courage and grace.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, grandchildren; Desmond and Isaiah, his sisters, Patricia Garrett, Carolyn Sue Garrett-Harper of Henderson, and Fannie Norris of Tatum; his brother, “Bennie” Joe Garrett of Longview; and a son, Corey Howard.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted companion, Leanora, his children; Marcus Howard (Longview,Tx) LaDerrick Booker (Santo Domingo Este, Dominican Republic) Rodney Garrett (Houston, Tx) Corey Garrett (Longview,Tx) Adrian Izeal Garrett Jr. (Henderson, Tx) Kimberly Mapps Garrett (Houston,Tx ) Earnest Mapps (Shreveport, La) Kevin Mapps (Houston, Tx) Shedetric Mapps-Paige (Henderson, Tx) grandchildren; Devon, LaMarcus, Dimenya, Daija, Travin, Deadrian, Dezmin, Jordan, Joseph, Ariah, Brandilyn, Kenlie, Kaelyn, LaCorious, LaCorbett, Cikia, Terrence, Zakia, Kamron, Kaylon, Kannon, LaKrystal, Joshua, Yordi, Marianny, Chiki, Isaac, Perla, Great-grandchildren; Devion, Kory, Dakota, Devon Jr., Cordarian, Jusiah, Isreal, Kobe, Kodi, Kason, Marcella, Erica, Easton, Emory, Aymeric, Westonand and Jonny.
