Delores Brooks Obituary

Delores Jean Brooks, affectionately known as Nellie, was born on April 1, 1957, in Tyler, Texas, to L.J. Small Sr. and Lolie J. Lewis-Small. She completed her high school education at John Tyler High School Independent School District.

Nellie furthered her studies at Tyler Junior College, where she earned her Medication Certification. She dedicated many years of her career to the Texas Department of Human Services.

Nellie was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Taylor D. Smith-Brooks; her son, Kneico Rashad Smith-Brooks; and her grandson, Thomas L. Lewis, her father; L.J. Small Sr.; her husband, Ellie Brooks; and her brothers, Glenn Small, L.J. Small Jr., and Jimmie Small, as well as her long-time partner, Mark A. Smith.

Cherishing her memory are her mother, Lolie Jean Lewis-Small; her daughter, Nachio Small-Lewis (Thomas); her two sons, Diwarn Small and Marco Smith (Brandel); and her four grandsons, LaDarrion Smith, Ba’Kari Smith, Calen Smith, and Brice Smith. She is also survived by her two granddaughters, Jhad’e Small and A’Caiyah Smith; her two great-granddaughters, Tayilor Thomas and Taylen Jackson; and her three great-grandsons, Rhyder Smith, Tru Thomas, and Jeremiah Lewis. Nellie is also remembered by her four sisters—Debra (Byron), Sandra (Harvey), Dapha (Chester), and Sheila (A.B.)—as well as her three brothers, Garry, Tyrone, and Donnell. Her family includes two uncles, Arthur Williams Jr. and Howard Williams, and one aunt, Dorothy Williams.

Nellie leaves behind treasured memories with her close friends, Teira Brown, Rosalyn Henry, and Fannie Mae Jones and her cargivers; Robin, KeKe, and Mona. Additionally, she is survived by a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
