Glendel Eargle Breazeale
Glenn Breazeale, 90, died June 14, 2024, at Christus Good Shepard hospital in Longview, Texas. He was born to Wyatt and Katie (Coppage) Breazeale on April 11, 1934, near Ore City, in Upshur County, Texas.
Glenn attended elementary school in Ore City and went on to graduate from Diana High School in 1950. He then attended Tyler Commercial College until 1953 when he answered his nation’s call to duty and served in the U.S. Navy as a communications technician until 1957. He was stationed in Japan and Charleston, South Carolina. Glenn also served in the U.S. Naval Reserve until 1968. While stationed in Charleston, he met and married Gladys “Teena” Madge Segrest on June 28, 1958. They were married 41 years until Teena’s passing in 1999.
Glenn and Teena eventually settled in Ore City. They owned and operated Breazeale’s Landing and Glenn later retired from a long and fulfilling career in the shipping department at Lone Star Steel.
Glenn was dedicated to his community and served on the Ore City Council. In 2001 he was elected to his first term as Mayor of Ore City and served as Mayor until 2016. Glenn was involved in other civic organizations and was named the 2007 Upshur County Outstanding Citizen of the Year. He was a member of the Ore City Masonic Lodge #1364 for 48 years and became a Master Mason in 1970. Glenn served his Lord and community faithfully for decades, helping those in need and was a member of First Methodist Church of Ore City.
In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Teena, their sons Rodney and Greg, his brother W.W. (Jay) Breazeale, Jr., (Alene), sister Martha Kay Parsley (Harold), and brother Frank Breazeale. He is survived by daughter, Kelly Breazeale of Australia, son Wesley Breazeale (Laura), of San Antonio, and grandchildren Dustin Breazeale (Justin) of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Jeffrey Breazeale (Dayna), of San Antonio, Skyler Breazeale (Libby) of Gulfport, Mississippi, step-grandsons, John Floyd, Jr. (Roxanne) of Weslaco, Texas, and Michael Floyd of San Antonio, great-grandchildren Angela, Talyn, Chip, Michael, Isaiah, Marcy, and Hunter, sister-in-law Annette Breazeale, and nieces and nephews. Glenn is also survived by his long-time companion and dance partner, Ruth Tullar of Gilmer, Texas.
A Life Celebration will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 6, 2024, at First Methodist Church of Ore City, 206 Althea St., Ore City, Texas 75683. Those who wish to remember Glenn in a special way may make gifts in his memory to First Methodist Church of Ore City or a charity of choice.
