Obituary

1The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters…
                    ~Psalms 23

Joyce was born on July 31, 1957 to Bertha Lee (Rivers) Brown and James Melvin Brown. Joyce was a 1975 graduate of Daingerfield High School. She attended Prairie View A&M University immediately after high school. She married Robert Jackson Johnson Jr. on October 6, 1975 and to this union two children were born: Felisha and Cedric. She later received her teacher certificate and taught in Dallas, Texas briefly.

She decided on a career change to become a CNA and then later became a Med Aide. She labored faithfully in Mt. Pleasant, TX and then worked at Omaha Healthcare until she retired in August of 2013: she was loved by her staff and even recognized as employee of the month in May 2008 and October 2009.

She grew up at Mt. Mitchell Church of Christ.  Later as an adult, she became a faithful member at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and was a member of the Women’s Ministry.

Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family. She was always at family functions. She was a very loving daughter, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was the life of the party, always filled with joy. She was a sassy, yet classy woman with a fashionable sense. Her favorite saying was “Hey Y’all “ when she walked into any family event. If you would have music on, trust that she was going to get on the floor and dance.

“ Use the rest of your life getting ready
to worship our Awesome God forever.”

She is preceded in death by her father: James M. Brown, grandmother: Sally Rivers, grandfather: Sony Rivers, brother: Kenneth Reynolds, and several aunts and cousins.

Those left to cherish her loving memories are her mother: Bertha Lee Brown of Omaha, TX, one daughter: Felisha Johnson of Dallas, TX; one son: Cedric Johnson of Omaha, TX; one bonus child: Robert Johnson, III; four grandchildren: Jahmai Johnson of McKinney, TX, Amyree Johnson of Naples, TX, Cedric Johnson, Jr of Naples, TX, and Angel Nickerson of Dallas, TX ; two great grandchildren: Londynn Johnson and Legaci Johnson of Mesquite, Tx and a bonus great grand daughter: Marlei Johnson; four sister: Martha (Michael) Arthur, Gloria (Charles) Randle of Omaha, TX , Carolyn Brown of Omaha, TX, and Dianna (Leon) Mosley of Naples, TX; two brothers: Mark Brown of Mt. Pleasant, TX, and Tyrone (Veronica) Brown of Irving, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
