IN MEMORIAM: KERRY (SKEET) EVANS
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Kerry (Skeet) Evans, who departed this life on June 5, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on March 16, 1948, in Cason, Texas. Skeet was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Kerry enlisted in the United States Army in 1968, serving with distinction during two tours in Vietnam, as well as in Korea, Hawaii, and Germany, where his son, Kerry Jr., was born. He dedicated his life to serving his country and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant (SSG) in 1986, having earned numerous accolades and honors throughout his military career.
Skeet is survived by his dedicated son, Kerry Evans Jr. (Shannon), and his cherished granddaughter, Penelope (Penny) Evans, who brought immense joy and light to his life. He is also survived by six loving sisters: Diann Turner (Dwayne) of Cason, Stephane Tuggar (Brian) of Cedar Hill, Kathy Evans of Mesquite, Lisa Evans of Mesquite, Joyce Evans of Athens, Texas, and Ava Mathis of Greenville, Texas. One special brother, David Mathis of Greenville, Texas.
He held his family dear, including his special niece, Gwendolyn Evans-Cheatum (Michael) of Daingerfield, Texas, as well as Mykesia Cheatum of Daingerfield, Texas, and Mya Cheatum of Houston, Texas. Skeet's legacy also includes three nephews and one niece who will carry his memory forward.
Kerry was preceded in death by his parents, Erma Evans White (James) and McKinley Evans of Cason, Texas, and three brothers: McKinley Evans Jr., Louis Evans, and James Arthur. He is also mourned by a host of cousins and friends who were touched by hiskindness and spirit.
