The DASH of Lenora
Lenora Ray-Glaspie, affectionately known as Lee, was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, niece and friend. She passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on January 23, 1950, in the close-knit community of Tatum, Texas, Lenora was the cherished first daughter of Clifton Ray and Leola Vonceil Harris Ray. She was the guiding light and devoted eldest sister among her seven siblings, with a heart that held each of them close.
Growing up Lee displayed an early passion for learning. As a young girl, she began attending school in the black community of Mayflower alongside her older brother, James, even before reaching school age. This early start led her to graduate from Mayflower High School ahead of her time, a testament to her intellect and determination. Her commitment to education and self-improvement would be a hallmark of her life.
Lee’s journey included the joys and trials of motherhood. Through her brief marriage to John Richard Harmon, Sr., she was blessed with three children: Toni LaShun Ray Crawford, Richard Antonio Harmon, and John Richard Harmon, Jr.. As a single mother, she faced life’s challenges with strength and grace, supported by the love and assistance of her parents, siblings, extended family, and friends.
Lenora embarked on a career with Southwestern Bell, now AT&T, in the 1980’s where she dedicated over two decades of service. She began as a 411-call center operator in Dallas, using her compassionate voice to assist callers with ease. Over time, she rose to the position of directory assistance supervisor in Tyler, Texas, where she led her team with kindness, respect, and a sense of community. Prior to her career with AT&T, she worked several jobs in the field of healthcare and publishing. After retiring in 2008, Lenora devoted more of her time to volunteering at her church, Friendship Baptist Church, and supporting her grandchildren.
In addition to her career, Lee was known for her culinary skills, especially her delicious red velvet cake, potato salad and smoked wings. These dishes were family favorites, eagerly requested for gatherings, as her cooking brought comfort and joy to all. A warm and generous host, Lenora filled her home with delightful aromas and laughter, making everyone feel loved and welcomed.
Lee was known for her keen sense of style and fashion, always dressing with elegance and flair. Her eye for detail and love of bold colors made her a standout at every gathering, and her energetic personality was admired by all who knew her. As a lover of life, Lenora enjoyed spending time with her close-knit group of girlfriends, whether dancing the night away or gathering for a lively house party. Her smile lit up every room, filling those around her with happiness and comfort.
In 1986, Lenora found love again and married Samuel Glaspie. The two moved to Lakeport, Texas, where they built a life surrounded by family and friends. Her marriage to Sam was blessed for 16 wonderful years. Together, they shared a deep faith and dedication to each other until God called Sam home in 2002.
In 2016, Lenora was diagnosed with dementia, a challenging journey that swiftly took hold of her mind and gradually limited her independence. As the disease progressed, it became difficult for her to live alone. Throughout her illness, Lenora was blessed with the constant care and devotion of her sister, Christene, and her youngest son, Rich, who tended to her daily needs, Christene’s love and commitment provided Lenora with comfort and companionship during her most challenging times, surrounding her with unwavering care until her final days.
Lenora was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Leola Ray, her brothers, Alton Darnell Ray, James Milton Ray, and Edward Renee Ray.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and faith. Lee’s unwavering love for her children was the foundation of her life. Her pride and affection for them were immeasurable, and she delighted in every milestone and memory shared with them.
