Lourenza Coffey Obituary

Lourenza “Lou” Coffey, Sr. was born on January 31, 1936 to the parentage of  Richard and Lucy (Johnson) Coffey. He met his late wife, Celestan (Henderson) Coffey, and to this union seven children were born.

Lourenza, Sr. was a loving and devoted husband and father. He worked really hard to provide for his family. He held several positions of employment ranging from a night watchmen (Naples), the wrecker service (Naples), and as a mechanic (Ford- Daingerfield, & Hughes Springs). His last place of employment was with Dewey Moore Ford of Hughes Springs, where he worked for many years until he retired.

He loved to garden and was an avid fisherman.  When the weather permitted, you could always find him out fishing near some body of water and you better believe he was going to bring home a great catch to feed his family with. He enjoyed a cup of coffee every morning and cared for several animals throughout his life. He, especially, loved to cook. He prepared delicious meals every day for his family. His good cooking was known amongst not only his family, but also to his friends, neighbors, and sometimes even absolute strangers. He could absolutely ‘throw down’ in the kitchen. If anyone came over while he was cooking, he'd make them welcome to a plate of what he had prepared because “there [was] always room for anyone in need of a “hot” meal at [his] table”, he'd say.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years: Celestan Coffey; one son: Lourenza D. Coffey, Jr., a bonus son: Greg Coffey, four sisters: Ella Mae Carpenter, Eddie Marie Denweed, Jewel Heath, and Ethel Coffey, two brothers: George Coffey and Tommie C. Coffey, two sister- in laws: S.L. Hawkins and Georgie Wright Coffey, four brother- in laws:  Wilson Carpenter, Samuel Denweed, Zebbie D. Heath, and Willie D. White.

Lourenza, Sr. leaves to cherish his memories six children: Bobbie Coffey Estrada (Manuel) of Burleson, TX.; Esther Coffey, Beverly Coffey, and Mae Coffey of Naples, TX.; and Bridgett Coffey (Roderick) and Christopher Coffey (Adrienne) of Omaha, TX. Fourteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.

One sister: Martha White of Arlington, TX.

His bonus sons: Dash Coffey (Caroline), Quen Coffey (Tia), and Thomas Heath of Naples, TX., Kevin Coffey (Katlyn) of Omaha, TX., Dillon Coffey (Karli) of Argo, TX., and Johnny Don and Anthony Coffey (Tricia) of Arlington, TX.

His bonus daughters: Jessica Coffey of Naples, TX., Darlene (James) Harris of Palmer, TX., Debra Heath of Naples, TX., Denise Dartez of Killeen, TX., Claudia Brown of Mt. Pleasant, TX., LaBrishia Bell of Texarkana, TX., and Margaret Jiles of Naples, TX.

Also one special niece: LaKeshia Coffey of Naples, TX. and a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

To say that, “Lourenza loved his family”, is an understatement. He was the epitome of  a family man, and although he loved all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the same, he took a special interest in his grand boys. He raised them up with the same principles that were instilled in him, exemplifying what a great man looked like daily, always  imparting knowledge, and teaching them all of the various skillsets he possessed. Anyone who knew him knew he was especially proud of his family but his grandsons just brought a smile out of him that no-one else could.
