Michael Ray Epps was born on July 9, 1956, to Annie Bell Traylor Epps and Leamon Carlos Epps. He became a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church at a young age, and once he dedicated his life to Christ, he immersed himself in the scriptures, often recalling passages from his Bible. He frequently expressed his faith with the phrase, "God Got Me," a testament to his belief in God's grace, mercy, and favor.
Michael received his education in Daingerfield before enlisting in the Army, embodying the spirit of the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. Known for his open-hearted nature, he was a beloved brother and friend, admired by all who knew him. A man of diverse skills, Michael was self-employed and engaged in various trades including landscaping, plumbing, fence building, and tree cutting, among many others.
Although he never married, he was surrounded by family near and far, who will always hold dear the memories of Michael, affectionately known as Mike.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie; father, Leamon; grandparents on both sides; and his elder brother, Lee Oscar. Michael is survived by his sisters: Sharon Epps Washington and Carolyn Epps Lewis, both of Daingerfield, and Betty Epps from Dallas. He also leaves behind his brothers: James (Pat) from Dallas, Larry (Annette) from Daingerfield, Walter from Lone Star, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of relatives and friends. If he could share a final message with us today, it would be, “always remember, God Got Me.”
