RL was born on July 4, 1950, to Delores Akins and Earl Smith in Anderson County. He was a lifelong member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church and received his education in the Palestine Independent School District, graduating from Palestine High School in 1967.
A passionate bowler and domino enthusiast, RL enjoyed many moments of joy with family and friends through these pursuits.
In 1982, RL met and married Linda Warren, welcoming two children into his life: Derrick Warren and Amanda Warren-Gee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delores Akins and Earl Smith; his brother, R. B. Birdow; his stepfather, Jerome Akins; grandparents Roosevelt and Lola Bell Birdow; Roberta and A.B. Smith; his uncle George Birdow; and his aunt Druscilla Byrd.
RL is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Linda Birdow of Tyler, TX; his children, Derrick Warren of Ft. Worth, TX, and Amanda (DaRoyce) Gee of Burleson, TX; and his cherished grandchildren, Zenda, Anthony, Trinitee, and Amayia. He is also survived by his sisters Linda Gaston, Vay Lee Birdow, Carolyn Beard, Paula Akins, Arita Glover, Gwen Meshack, Roberta Harrell, Sharon Smith Jackson, Sandra Gaines Roy, Cynthia Simien Jules, and Ettro Laverne Smith Rambo; his brother Dexter Smith; five special brothers; and his uncle Napoleon Smith.
RL leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
