Vernies Alvin Evans, born on November 25, 1946, in Titus County, was the cherished son of Van Evans, Sr. and Iola Hayes. He embraced his faith early on by joining Shady Grove Baptist Church.
In marriage to Willie Jean Wells, he welcomed two daughters into the world: Lisa Roney, who preceded him in death, and Vernice Evan-Ivory (Curtis), who resides in Mt. Pleasant, TX.
A proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Mt. Pleasant, Vernies dedicated 25 years to Pilgrim Pride. His diverse career included roles as an auto salesman, mechanic, ordained minister, and notary public. He served as associate pastor at Shady Grove Baptist Church until health challenges arose.
Vernies is survived by his wife, his daughter, and two grandsons: Curtis Ivory Jr. of Pittsburg, TX, and Dewayne Ivory of Mt. Pleasant, TX. He also leaves behind his sister, Florine Williams of Mt. Pleasant, TX, and brother, Arthur Lee Evans of Pittsburg, TX, along with sister-in-law Mary Moon of Ore City, TX, brothers-in-law Billie Wells and Sloan Wells of Cason, TX, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever hold his memory dear.
