On February 10, 1972, a baby boy was born to Gwenlyn Pippins and Wilbur Davis Jr. of Longview, Texas. He spent most of his life in Longview, growing up in a close-knit neighborhood known as Jerusalem, where strong bonds and lasting memories were formed.
Wilbur Pippins, affectionately known as “Hop” or “Weed Hop,” was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to all who knew him. He had a heart full of love, especially for children, and never met a stranger. His presence brought laughter, wisdom, and a unique energy that could light up any room.
He attended Longview High School and was a proud member of the Class of 1991. Throughout his life, Wilbur marched to the beat of his own drum, living life on his own terms and embracing every moment with authenticity and strength.
Wilbur found love again when he married Myesha Lee Pippins of Tyler, Texas. Together, they built a blended family filled with love and connection.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Amber Pippins of Denver, Colorado, and Jmayia Davis of Longview, Texas; his stepchildren, Tiaka Lee of Crandall, Texas, Shakera Lee of Tyler, Texas, Samaja Williams of Tyler, Texas, and Tyrone Williams Jr. of Tyler, Texas; his bonus daughter, Angelica Brooks of Longview, Texas; and his grandchildren, including his granddaughter, Kaeleigh Medlock of Longview, Texas, and bonus granddaughter, Kirah Hogg of Longview, Texas.
He also leaves behind his Step Mother, Rose Davis, his brothers, Acie B. Pippins (Angela) and Darren Davis of Longview, Texas; his sister, Lakesha Clark of Dallas, Texas; his mother and father-in-law, Eddie and Jacqueline Lee of Bastrop, Louisiana; his sisters-in-law, LaTesha Lee and LaQuesha Lee of Pascagoula, Mississippi, Shamika Johnson of Dallas, Texas, and Jaquita Bethea (Antrone) of Tyler, Texas; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Willie Thomas; his grandfather, Mr. Brown; and his granddaughter, Kaisley Medlock.
If you knew Wilbur, you knew he marched to his own beat—bold, unapologetic, and full of life. His legacy of love, laughter, and individuality will live on in all who knew and loved him.
